The South Puget Sound Wildlife Area is a 100-acre open space with hiking and bike trails. Explore the Native plant gardens, have a picnic, or enjoy a calm walk. This area is maintained by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

About the Wildlife Area

The South Puget Sound Wildlife Area is a 100-acre space with hiking and bike trails. On top of the trails, this area offers many great features, including:

  • A Native plant garden to learn more about Lakewood’s indigenous plants
  • Picnic space with a view of Lakewood’s prairie habitat
  • 1/2 Mile of ADA paved trail to a scenic view of Mt. Rainier
  • Bird watching in a number of different habitats
  • A Fish Hatchery that is open to the public during weekdays

Special Rules:

  • Open every day during daylight hours
  • Bikes, skateboards, scooters and other non-motorized vehicles allowed on paved trail
  • Dogs must be kept on-leash
