Notice Under the Americans with Disabilities Act

In accordance with the requirements of title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the Lakewood Chamber of Lakewood, Washington (Lakewood Chamber) will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in the Lakewood Chamber’s offices, venues, programs, or activities.

The Lakewood Chamber website provides a third-party service that will assist with visually impaired individuals when viewing the website on both desktop, tablet or mobile. Some parts of the website may not be compatible with this program. Files such as photos, graphics, documents and other third-party information may not adjust as the websites does using this accessibility software.

The Lakewood Chamber does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices. The Lakewood Chamber will not ask a job applicant about the existence, nature, or severity of a disability. Applicants may be asked about their ability to perform specific job functions. Medical examinations or inquiries may be made, but only after a conditional offer of employment is made and only if required of all applicants for the position.

The Lakewood Chamber will make reasonable accommodations for the known physical or mental limitations of a qualified applicant or employee with a disability upon request unless the accommodation would cause an undue hardship on the normal operation of the Lakewood Chamber’s, program, event or service. To the extent its selection criteria for employment decisions have the effect of disqualifying an individual because of disability, those criteria will be job-related and consistent with business necessity.

The Lakewood Chamber will make all reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all programs, services, and activities. For example, individuals with service animals are welcome at the chamber offices, even where pets are generally prohibited. The exception: off-site functions and other public events where the venue is a third-party location. The policies and procedures of that location will be observed. Please feel free to contact the venue in advance or you can contact the Chamber directly if you have any questions or concerns.

A person who requires an accommodation or an auxiliary aid or service to participate in a Lakewood Chamber program, service, or activity, should contact the office of Linda Smith, the Lakewood Chamber’s President / CEO, at 253-582-9400 as far in advance as possible but no later than 48 hours before the scheduled event.

Complaints that a Lakewood Chamber program, service, or activity is not accessible to persons with disabilities and complaints of disability-based discrimination against applicants for Lakewood Chamber employment or Lakewood Chamber employees should be directed to Linda Smith for review.

The Lakewood Chamber will not place a surcharge on a particular individual with a disability or any group of individuals with disabilities to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids/services or reasonable modifications of policy, such as retrieving items from locations that are open to the public but are not accessible to persons who use wheelchairs.
