Walk in the Same Buildings as U.S. Civil War Soldiers at Historic Fort Steilacoom
Our volunteers would love to show you, your children and other family and friends what daily life was like in the 1850’s. We have four furnished buildings that still stand from 1857 and 1858. They are among the oldest grouping of buildings in Washington State.
No family of six or fewer pays more than $10. We want your experience to be affordable, because everyone should know of the historic figures who helped to build Washington Territory.
This was the first U.S. military post in Puget Sound. Our buildings were walked by people who went on to serve in the U.S. Civil War. Before that, the men and women in and around Fort Steilacoom played a key role in many local events including the Treaty War and the Pig War.
Our association acknowledges the complex history of the Fort and its role in the colonization of the area. We are actively working to incorporate the diverse perspectives and experiences of all individuals and communities who interacted with the Fort.
These buildings, located in what’s now the City of Lakewood, are now open for you. However, we do want to maintain some capacity limits since some of the rooms are small. We’re asking people to buy or reserve tickets in advance here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/405453441157?aff=oddtdtcreator
