Tacoma Rainiers Baseball Team
The Tacoma Rainiers are a professional Minor League Baseball team based in Tacoma, Washington. They are the Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, making them the highest-level minor league team in the Mariners’ player development system.
The Rainiers compete in the Pacific Coast League (PCL), one of Minor League Baseball’s premier leagues, featuring top prospects and players on the verge of reaching Major League Baseball.
Home Field: Cheney Stadium
The team plays its home games at Cheney Stadium, a historic ballpark in Tacoma that opened in 1960. The stadium is known for its intimate atmosphere, scenic views of the Pacific Northwest, and strong community feel. It has hosted professional baseball continuously since its opening and remains one of the most iconic minor league venues in the country.
Team History
Professional baseball in Tacoma dates back more than a century, but the modern franchise began in 1960, when the San Francisco Giants relocated their Triple-A affiliate to Tacoma. Over the years, the club has been affiliated with several Major League organizations before becoming the Seattle Mariners’ Triple-A partner in 1995.
Since adopting the “Rainiers” name in 1995, the team has become a stable and recognizable part of Pacific Northwest baseball culture.
