In times like these, every bit of “fun” that can be discovered, invented, or imagined makes each day worth living.  It is in ourselves, with friends and family, where we make the choice to put aside what realities we face today and make the most of the smiles we can experience.

I started my day as usual and awoke earlier than expected as I had appointments throughout the afternoon.  I made some coffee, had a bagel with cream cheese and browsed my phone for the daily news bulletins.  I used to make fun of my elders who would grab the paper in the morning, and while the technology has changed, it seems I have developed a similar routine. I got on with my day, met with my clients, and as one might think, wondered what was for dinner and how my Friday night was going to conclude.

Before retiring for the evening, I checked my phone one last time, browsing Facebook as I typically do to keep up with friends and family. To my surprise, I saw a gal dancing in the rain in a bright yellow raincoat, shiny red boots, with a bright red umbrella, against a black backdrop.

My phone screen is small, and my eyesight is not what it used to be. I squinted at first and said to myself, “Is that Linda?  That can’t be Linda? No way, is that Linda.”  I zoomed in on the picture on my phone and to my utter shock it was “LINDA having fun in the rain!”

She looked as if she was having the time of her life.  Experiencing what it truly is to be free and a kid again.  The particles of rain droplets, the exceptional lighting, and the perfect ensemble of red and yellows made her action shots something you might see in a high-quality movie poster.

It takes the ordinary person that you are and showcases you in a light that sheds all perceived notions.  If you are over 50 years old like me, you know with half a century of time comes the aches and pains that you never thought would remind you of your own mortality. In those photos, Linda put aside her pain, her history and her worries ~ and clearly focused on “enjoying the moment.”

Kudos to Windell Portraits for bringing this photographic experience to the Lakewood area.  I am not sure if you could ask for a more enlightening and healing experience. The opportunity to make your mark in dynamic action where water rains down is something to behold.
